Documents to rent an Indian virtual number
Indian virtual numbers are issued only to a verified business, so before you rent one in Waki you complete a one-time business verification (KYC) with any one of three certificates. Here is which certificate to upload, where to download it, and how to avoid the usual reasons it is turned down.

Why verification is needed
A one-time check on your business before your first Indian number.
A number for WhatsApp registration
Waki rents Indian virtual numbers (landline numbers) that take calls only. You use one to register WhatsApp Business on the official API: when Meta sends the code, choose “Call me”, the call is forwarded to your phone, and the code is read out to you.
Issued only to a verified business
Indian numbers are issued only to a verified business. That is why you complete a business verification (KYC) before you can rent one, with a certificate issued to the business.
Once per account, inside Waki
The verification is done once per Waki account, under Virtual numbers → Business verification. The result usually arrives within minutes and is also e-mailed to you. Once verified, you buy the number from the same page and pay from your Waki wallet.
Upload any one of these
One certificate issued to the business is enough. Each card shows the number you type in the form and where to download the certificate.
GST registration certificate
The certificate of registration under GST, Form GST REG-06. The registration must be active: a cancelled GST registration is refused.
Number on it: GSTIN
How to download it
- Log in at gst.gov.in.
- Open Services → User Services → View/Download Certificates.
- Download the registration certificate.
Certificate of Incorporation
Issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) to a private limited company, a one person company (OPC) or an LLP.
Number on it: CIN
How to download it
- Use the PDF the MCA e-mailed when the company was incorporated.
- Or download a copy from the MCA portal.
Udyam Registration Certificate
The MSME registration certificate from the Udyam portal. Udyam registration is free of charge.
Number on it: Udyam registration number
How to download it
- Go to udyamregistration.gov.in → Print/Verify → Print Udyam Certificate.
- Enter your Udyam registration number and the OTP sent to the registered mobile.
- Download or print the certificate.
Documents that are turned down
Only the three certificates above are accepted. These are refused, even when they show the business name and address.
- Bank statements
- Cancelled cheques or passbooks
- PAN cards
- Aadhaar or other personal IDs
- Utility bills
- Invoices
- Rent agreements
- Shop and establishment licences
- Screenshots
Meta Business Verification is a separate step
Meta runs its own Business Verification on your Business Manager for your WhatsApp messaging limits, with its own list of documents. It does not replace this verification, and this one does not replace Meta’s. Read the Meta Business Verification guide.
Before you upload
Go through each point before you send the certificate.
- The file is a PDF, JPG or PNG of up to 5 MB.
- It shows the complete certificate, every page, clear and not cropped.
- It is not password-protected.
- The legal business name you type in the form is exactly as printed on the certificate.
- The GSTIN, CIN or Udyam registration number you type is exactly as printed.
- The certificate is current and active; a cancelled GST registration is refused.
- It is signed by an authorised signatory and carries the company seal (stamp): print it, sign it, stamp it, then scan it.
Step by step in Waki
From the certificate on your desk to a number you can register WhatsApp Business with.
Step 1: Get the certificate ready
Download one of the three accepted certificates: the GST registration certificate, the Certificate of Incorporation or the Udyam Registration Certificate. Print it, have an authorised signatory sign it, add the company seal, and scan the complete certificate.
Tip: PDF, JPG or PNG up to 5 MB, every page included, not password-protected.
Step 2: Open Virtual numbers in Waki
Sign in to Waki and open Virtual numbers → Business verification. The verification is done once per account; a second number does not need a second verification.
Step 3: Enter your business details exactly as printed
Type the legal business name exactly as it is printed on the certificate, including a suffix such as Private Limited or LLP, then the business address and the e-mail address where the result should go.
Tip: Copy the name as it is printed on the certificate, word for word.
Step 4: Choose the document type and enter its number
Choose the type that matches the certificate you upload, then type its number exactly as printed: the GSTIN, the CIN or the Udyam registration number.
Step 5: Upload the file and confirm it is signed and sealed
Upload the scanned certificate and confirm that it is signed by an authorised signatory and carries the company seal.
Step 6: Submit and wait for the e-mail
Send it for verification. The result usually arrives within minutes; it is shown on the Virtual numbers page and also e-mailed to you.
Tip: If it is turned down, the reason is shown on the same page. Fix that one thing and send it again.
Step 7: Buy your number
Once your business is verified, buy the number from the same page and pay from your Waki wallet. When you register WhatsApp Business with it and Meta sends the code, choose “Call me”: the call is forwarded to your phone and the code is read out.
Common reasons and the fix
The reason is shown on the Virtual numbers page and e-mailed to you. Fix that one thing and send it again from the same page.
“The documents you uploaded are not among the ones we can verify”
Fix: A document outside the accepted list was uploaded, such as a bank statement. Upload one of the three certificates instead: the GST registration certificate, the Certificate of Incorporation or the Udyam Registration Certificate.
The business name does not match the certificate
Fix: Type the legal business name exactly as printed on the certificate, including a suffix such as Private Limited or LLP.
The registration number does not match
Fix: Type the GSTIN, CIN or Udyam registration number exactly as printed on the certificate you upload, and choose the matching document type.
The file is incomplete, unclear or locked
Fix: Upload the complete certificate, every page, clear and not cropped, as a PDF, JPG or PNG that is not password-protected.
The certificate is not signed or sealed
Fix: Print the certificate, have an authorised signatory sign it, add the company seal (stamp), scan it and upload the scan.
The GST registration is cancelled
Fix: A cancelled GST registration is refused. Upload the Certificate of Incorporation or the Udyam Registration Certificate instead.
